The characters created on a particular Ladder can only play with others on the same D2R Items. After the season, Ladder Characters will be converted into characters that are not Ladder-exclusive, and will still have any Ladder-exclusive item available in that character's inventory.

Items that are stored at the time of the Ladder storage will need to be retrieved by the end the beginning of Ladder Season 3 to be returned, lest they become lost forever. Ladder seasons are scheduled to last between four and six months.

Blizzard will celebrate the game's inaugural Ladder season by streaming a live event that they're calling The Infernal Race.
