Permanent Magnet
Samarium cobalt magnet is a kind of rare earth permanent magnet material, which has the characteristics of high-temperature resistance, good thermal stability, and high coercive force. Although the room temperature magnetic properties of samarium cobalt magnets are not as good as those of neodymium iron boron magnets, their thermal stability is more than 10 times that of neodymium iron boron magnets. When the temperature exceeds 150°C, the magnetic energy product, coercive force, and thermal stability of SmCo magnets exceed those of NdFeB magnets. Samarium cobalt is currently a permanent magnet material with high thermal stability.
There are two types of SmCo magnets, SmCo 1:5 and SmCo 2:17.

SmCo5 Magnets
(BH)max values of regular SmCo5 magnet are between 14 and 24MGOe. SmCo5 is made of only Samarium and Cobalt and exhibits better corrosion resistance and machinability.

Sm2Co17 Magnets
(BH)max values of conventional Sm2Co17 magnet are between 22 and 32MGOe which is much higher than the former SmCo5 series. Besides two basic elements Samarium and Cobalt, different grades of Sm2Co17 vary in the content of Iron (Fe), Copper (Cu), and Zirconium (Zr).
