While it's a bourbon that is meant for connoisseurs, it's also perfect for those who are just getting into single barrel whiskey. This is because the bourbon doesn't have a lot of alcohol burn, making it easy to drink and enjoy.

If you love bourbon, you've probably heard of Blanton's. The brand is known for their single-barrel whiskey, which was the first of its kind back in 1984 when bourbon was really struggling. Vodka was becoming the beverage of choice and bourbon distilleries were starting to shut down. Blanton's was the exception and it quickly became the bourbon that every bourbon lover wanted to have in their collection.

It didn't take long for Blanton's to become a cult brand, and when the 2000s bourbon boom kicked into high gear, demand skyrocketed and prices started to climb. Blanton's is now one of the most sought after bourbons in the world and there are plenty of ways to get your hands on it (if you're lucky enough).

However, there's more to this bourbon than just its unicorn bottle status. It is also made at the most acclaimed distillery in America, Buffalo Trace. It's a bourbon that consistently delivers on balance and character.

The OG was created for discerning bourbon enthusiasts who appreciate exceptional smoothness and depth of flavor that is on par with the world's best whiskey. The nose opens with spicy rye and tobacco notes with hints of caramel and honey. The palate carries that same complexity with notes of cocoa, toasted nuts and vanilla with a deep and resonate finish. Like all other Blanton's bourbons, this single-barrel bourbon is aged in Warehouse H at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. This warehouse is unique because it has metal cladding on the walls which creates wider temperature swings, which in turn encourages a higher interaction between the bourbon and the wood.

Blanton's Special Reserve is a smooth and mellow bourbon that works well in almost any cocktail, especially those with sweeter ingredients. The nose opens with a hint of cedar and whispers of raisin while the palate brings flavors of vanilla and toffee. The bourbon finishes smooth and is great served neat or on the rocks.

Currently, there are two editions of this bourbon: a limited-edition release for La Maison du Whisky in France and a standard-edition version made just for the United States. The only difference between these bourbons is the mash bill, with the French version containing slightly more rye than the American version.

As with all limited-edition bourbons, the bottles are only available on auctions. This means you can either bid on a charity auction online or you can go to one of the many private house auctions that happen all the time and try to score a bottle of Blanton's for yourself. Just make sure you do your homework and check out who verified the bottles and who's actually putting them up for sale before you start bidding on something that may not even be real.
