Lost Ark is a Diablo-esque MMOARPG that takes place in the fantastical world of Arkesia. There’s a ton to do, between sailing, leveling, PvP, nabbing collectibles, and even building out your own island stronghold. So you may need some help in preparing for the battles ahead. We’ve put together a beginners guide, with tips, tricks and other helpful things which will guide you through your first steps in Lost Ark.

Choose Your Character And Build

Lost Ark’s class and subclass system can be slightly confusing for newcomers. It currently has 15 classes to choose from, and you might decide that you don’t like the class you’re currently playing. Don’t feel the need to be committed to the first class that you choose. Find a class that best suits the way you want to play, whether it’s brawling up close and personal, supporting your party with shields and heals, or fighting from a distance with magic or guns. Don’t fret about placing points in a weak skill and ruining your build because in Lost Ark you can reset all points without cost and redistribute them how many times you want.

Use Potions

Lost Ark has two different potions to use: healing and HP. Healing potions recover health over time, while HP potions recover a percentage of your HP in an instant. No regardless of what you choose, make sure to always have some potions on your hotbar. There is a short cooldown period for potions, but the health regen rate will literally save your life if you ever get yourself in trouble during enemy or boss encounters. Potions are also fairly cheap, and you can purchase them from the potion vendor NPCs you see around towns or campsites. Enemies also tend to drop potions very frequently.

Earn More and More Gold

Lost Ark Gold is the sought-after currency in the game as it allows you to make purchases in the auction houses, whether it’s costumes, pets, engravings, accessories, consumables, food and many more. It also plays a vital part in your gear progression in all three tiers. It’s a currency that you will always need and you can never have enough. Through Abyss Dungeons and Una’s Tasks, etc, you can make more and more gold.

Fast Travel

In Lost Ark, you can teleport from one place to another using Triports. Teleporting does cost silver, but it’s a much quicker way of getting from region to region. To use them, you can go to the world map (pressing M) and click on the Triport in the region you want to go to, or, in case you want to teleport to a Triport in the region you are already in, you can click on them on the overlay mini-map.

Unlock Pet ASAP

The company of Lost Ark pets is invaluable, as they have abilities that complement your MMO grind. So unlocking your pet should be one of your biggest priorities. Near the start of the game, you’ll receive a guided quest centered around a pet rabbit. It takes only a few minutes to do, but you’ll receive a free pet as a final reward. Pets are incredibly useful in Lost Ark, especially early on. The biggest perk you’ll get from pets is that they’ll automatically loot everything for you! This is an incredible time-saver and a nice quality of life perk since you won’t need to click on every tiny thing that drops.

Pick Up Every Quest

The main story quests will reward you with a good chunk of experience, but you also want to pick up all of the yellow-marked side quests you see as well. Lost Ark’s side quests are surprisingly easy and breezy, and they usually task you with heading in the direction of your next main story objective, so you might as well pick them up along the way. Each quest rewards you with huge amounts of experience and items, and considering how easy they are to do, there’s no reason to ignore them.
